Captain's Trophy
Hello RPGC members,
This notice is to remind you that the competition for the Captain's Trophy is scheduled to be played on Sunday 13th September. This year, your captain (Ronnie Paton) has decided that the competition should take the format of a five club challenge. Each entrant may decide exactly which 5 clubs to use but the inclusion of a putter is mandatory. Entrants may carry only the selected 5 clubs in their bags during the round. Anyone spotted carrying more than 5 clubs will be disqualified.
The competition will be a Stableford and will be a shotgun start. Entrants should meet in the House at 9.00am for tea or coffee and we will try to get started at 9.30am. I will circulate this notice to you again by email nearer the time and will ask you to let me know of your intention to enter so that starting tees and groupings can be organised. The trophy and prizes will be presented immediately after the rounds at a location within the House.
Before I do that, you will hear from me regarding the details of the Friendship Challenge on August 30th.
Take care,
Allan

2015 AGM and Opening Muster - Results
Thanks to everyone who came along to the AGM and Opening Muster yesterday (Sunday 22 March) and helped to make it a successful and enjoyable day. Our efforts to ensure that the business part of the day would be completed in less than an hour worked only too well. In fact, we finished the AGM with half an hour to spare, but this only gave us the problem of coping with the rush to get out on the Golf Course and getting information to those who were arriving in expectation of an eleven o'clock tee-off for the Opening Muster. Inevitably this resulted in a small degree of confusion but it all sorted itself out, allbeit with a couple of teams having just two members instead of the desired 3 or 4. Fortunately this did not affect the results.
The Opening Muster is a scratch competition over 9 holes so that all members can participate despite the status of their current handicaps. The teams are selected by the Committee so as to result, hopefully, in an even mix of abilities in each team. The contest is over just 9 holes so that - a) we can be broken in gently to the new season, and b) we can finish in time for lunch. This year we decided to have separate male and female teams, and from all the evidence it looked as if this had the desired result of allowing new and not so new members the opportunity to get to know each other.
The winning team for the gents was that captained by Ian Brownlie which had a team average score of 43.7 for the 9 holes. Isobel Millar's team won the prize for the ladies with a team score of 55.5. Moira Ferry's team was not far behind on 56.25. The gents' longest drive was won by Robert Frame and the ladies' by Jenny Harvey. Nearest the hole at the 6th was won by Ian Brownlie.
The AGM business was concluded very smoothly and rapidly.
Euan Webster drew attention to an unintended omission in our proposals for the updating of the Constitution. This is in the process of being corrected and will result in there only being one Captain of the Golf Club in future, who may be either male or female, rather than the present requirement to have a gents' and a ladies' captain. In fact the wording of the entire Constitution will be checked and altered where necessary to ensure that any office-bearer may be male or female.
Elaine Horner asked if consideration could be given to having a greater number of Stableford competitions amongst those in our Fixture List. There was general agreement to this request and the Committee are currently deciding which competitions or medals can become Stablefords. An updated Fixture List will be sent out very soon.
Thanks to David Laird for his considerable help in organising the Opening Muster and for providing the prizes for longest drives and nearest the hole from his own resources.
Here's looking forward to many nice warm sunny days on our course this year.
Take care,
Allan

2015 AGM and Opening Muster
Hello RPGC Members,
Welcome to the 2015 season.
It's just 3 weeks to the AGM now on Sunday March 22nd and I need to let you know of a slight change to the timetable for the day. In order to get the AGM business completed as soon as possible so that we can get on the course for the opening muster I have decided to order the tea and coffee for all those attending at 9.30am and to start the AGM at 9.45am. This, I hope, will enable us to aim realistically for a tee-off at around 11am for our golf competition.
I need to impose a closing date of 5pm on Friday 20th March so that I can organise the teams and starting tees etc. Would you please let me know by email as soon as possible if you wish to enter for the opening muster and/or attend the AGM. The event itself will be a competition similar to those played at the opening and closing musters last year.
It will be a team competition over just nine holes and will be a shotgun start. Handicaps will NOT be applied and so every player will play off scratch. This will allow Golf Club members who have not yet got their official handicap to participate. The organisers will compile the teams from the list of those entering so as to achieve a fair mix of low, high, or no handicappers in each team.
Each player will mark his or her own card, with a maximum score of a triple bogey (6 or 7) for each hole. The team captain will sum the totals and divide it by the number of players in the team (expected to be 3) to provide the team score. The team with the lowest team score will be the winners and will receive prizes. We will meet in the House after completion of the rounds, hopefully not much later than around 1pm, to reveal the winners and present the prizes.
Your emails indicating that you wish to participate will be acknowledged fairly quickly. You will learn who your team mates are going to be on the morning of the competition. As usual we want to encourage lady members to play in this competition. It's a gentle introduction to the season.
Fingers crossed for a nice sunny day.
Allan

Suspension of Play
At the AGM (2014) we indicated that we were looking into establishing a procedure for dealing with situations where severe weather results in play needing to be suspended. This has now been done and is detailed below. We have tried to keep this as simple as possible. It applies to Medals and other competitions organised by RPGC and played at Ross Priory Golf Course.
In severe weather conditions the course can become unplayable and, therefore, play must be suspended. The course can be declared unplayable by any member of the Committee. If no Committee member is available, then any ordinary member, with the corroboration of at least two other ordinary members, may declare the course unplayable. Play may be resumed later in the same day if the course becomes playable again. Resumed play must commence at the hole immediately following the last completed hole before play was suspended.
In Medals, cards for completed rounds should be submitted as usual. Cards for incomplete rounds should also be submitted but marked as "play suspended".
Qualifying competitions at Ross Priory are the John McBeth Memorial, the Club Championship, and the Seniors' competition, and procedures are slightly different.
If, at the end of play for the day, fewer than half of the entrants have completed their rounds, the competition will be declared null and void and will be re-scheduled for a later date. If, however, 50% or more of the entrants have completed their rounds they may either, choose to submit their cards, or, they may choose the option available to those members who did not finish their rounds and replay their entire rounds at any time up to and including the 7th day following the original date of the competition.
Non-qualifying competitions comprise the Cook-McGinness Challenge, the Captain's Trophy, and the Lamb Quaich. If play needs to be suspended during any of these competitions, the organisers will make a decision at the time regarding re-scheduling or any other solution.
In all cases, if the course is declared unplayable in the morning, before the start of play, or during the early part of the day, and it appears that the course will likely be closed for the rest of the day, every effort will be made to get a Notice to that effect onto the Blog, Masterscoreboard , or the Course Closure answering machine (01389 830 719) as soon as possible.

Member Insurance Information.
As announced at the AGM (2014), the Club has taken out new insurance cover for the protection of our members for the 2014 season. Our brokers, Carrick Neil, will shortly provide us all with plastic cards (credit card size) that will give a summary of our cover. When these arrive arrangements will be made for their distribution to the membership.
For your information, and using layman's language, we are presenting here our best interpretation of the cover that we have purchased.
a.) Each member of RPGC will have liability protection should they be deemed responsible for the accidental bodily injury, death or disease of any person arising out of the member's activities at Ross Priory Golf Club. This cover will also apply should such accident occur while the RPGC member is temporarily at any other golf club in the world. This is interpreted as meaning that the RPGC member would NOT be covered if they were also a member of the other golf club, unless that golf club had the same cover for its members. The limit of this protection is £5 million.
b.) Each member of RPGC will have liability protection if they are deemed responsible for the accidental loss of, or damage to, third party property arising out of the member's activities at RPGC. The limit of this cover is £10,000.
c.) Each member of RPGC will also be compensated, up to a limit of £15,000, should they be killed, suffer loss of limbs or sight, or suffer permanent total disablement, arising out of activities at RPGC.
d.) In addition, if a member of RPGC achieves a hole-in-one at RPGC while playing in an official "qualifying" medal or stableford strokeplay competition held at the golf club, that member will receive a payment of £75. If this happens, keep your scorecard.
Claim forms, for any of the above, can be obtained from myself.
